3D Laser Scanning
and
CNC Machining

Until very recently, photographing your art work was the only way to create an accurate record of an original sculpture in clay or wax. Now with the latest scanning technology, every detail of your work can be captured and saved with a 3-D scan. Our scanner is the top of the line, Minolta VIVID 9i 3-D scanner. It will create extremely high resolution scans in 2.5 seconds.  It can scan not only a sculpture, but a live model as well. Architectural features, animals, mechanical parts, virtually any solid object, are  additional items that could be scanned.

Scanning is the first step of many in completing a high quality bronze casting. By creating this 3-D digital image of the original, even if the sculpture was lost or damaged, a new original could be carved from hard plastic and the casting process continued.

If you want your sculpture enlarged or reduced in size, our Hass 4 axis gantry router can meet your needs. It can carve materials as varied as foam, wood, plastic, even aluminum and bronze in sizes up to 5' X 10' X 26" tall . For an enlargement bigger than that, several foam blocks can be assembled to create a final enlargement.  Pared with the Minolta scanner, an incredible amount of surface detail can be attained. For artists interested in creating life size to monumental size sculptures, this is definitely a more efficient and accurate way to enlarge your piece.

This entire part of the process has so many possibilities, both for artists and for manufacturers of all kinds, that we are still trying to figure them all out! Sculpture conservation, computer aided inspection, rapid prototyping and reverse engineering are just some of the possible applications. If you want anything 3-D, reduced or enlarged, cast or carved in a variety of materials, including foam, wood, plastic or metal, this is the department you need to talk to.
